Following the Grampians Regional Palliative Care Conference last year, some of the volunteers who helped out at the conference asked 'when are we going to have a conference for us?' So the seeds were sown! A working party was formed (including two volunteers) and plans were developed. The conference, held on the 9th of November at Ballarat North Sports club was attended by 50 volunteers and 11 carers. Sponsorship was kindly provided by Gandarra Palliative Care Unit, Ballarat Health Services, Ballarat Hospice Inc, the Grampians Regional Palliative Care Team and the Grampians Region Palliative Care Consortium. The venue hire was donated by Ballarat North Sports Club and guest speakers donated their time, so fortunately the cost of the conference was kept to a minimum. Positive feedback was received from attendees and there is an idea to now conduct a similar conference in the Wimmera region if enough interest is generated.
